Grouting mosaic tiles

The missus has decided to go for mosaic detailing in the bathroom - small 1 1/2" ones on a mat approx 300mm square.

Looking at the little tiles, they are full of holes / rough texture - how do you grout these without getting grout in all the little holes / cracks?

Is is just a case of being careful?

Cheers!

It sounds like they're unfilled travertine? In which case fill the holes with grout.

You can use a grouting gun and take your time by applying grout only to the joints. But Rookery is right, they should be filled.

Even more so in a bathroom. Water will sit in all those little holes then breed mould. It's very common for people to pick out such a tile because they like the textutre but not realise how it will look installed.

Good point - guess a coloured grout will be in order.
