Google what a crap service

it seems this once giant of the search engine algorithms has become far more interested in making money and losing its open source heritage.

I remember a day when I could skillfully pick the correct combination of words to find pretty much anything i was looking for. but now the first 5 pages are generally paid for adverts and placed rankings for p.o.s. companies like alibaba what a crock....

and now it seems we will never be free from this forward thinking tyrannic company with them purchasing motorola no doubt to stream paid for adverts to the backgrounds of your mobile devices.

goddammit i do wish i had bought shares in 3 companies when i had the chance 11 years ago

then as a share holder i may have been able to stop this blasphemy of the freedoms granted to us on the world wide 'information' super highway, although information is fast being over run by greed and corporation.

Its websites like UHM, Free forums like PHPbb and other open source communities that will continue to keep the information free for the public, i just hope open source and the freedom of information that is available on the internet continues to thrive and will become what it once was, but these search engines and thier "algorithms" do not help the real spirit of the world of information...

oh and in case you are wondering, i can still find anything i am looking for on the internet, it takes me a fraction longer than it used to but i class myself as a highly experienced web user and it's no wonder regular computer users can't find what they are looking for half of the time.

I was thinking exactly the same thing last week root.

Google is crap now, a bloody nightmare to work around what you are looking for.

Trouble is, is there an alternative yet, certainly if one comes along it will hit Google for 6, hopefully.

Sadly no-one 'does it for the fun of it' - there are costs, there are (inevitably) shareholders therefore there MUST be a profit involved. Even with the best of intentions (as Google originally started with), events overtake you and corporate greed becomes uppermost. If new search engines do pop up they will either be absorbed or will turn into the same a Google has - eventually. Perhaps NOW is the time to start your own search engine, get yourself 'popular' then sell out and make a killing......

Alternatively it is possible to write a small piece of software (script) that amends your text input search words to automatically eliminate the most 'depressing' usual-results (including the inevitable alibaba....) - someone did it for 'electronic-related' searches and it worked wonderfully although by now it would probably require updating to cover the additional garbage that now exists. Scripts aren't my specialist area but maybe you can find one (Google search should reveal one ) that you can modify for your own use???

This site was hit quite badly (although not as bad as many) after the last Google update (Panda)

I used to use Google search engine daily, but now I get better results by searching using Bing.

Google search is not what it used to be and 99% of the time when I search for something the wikipedia page comes up number one If I wanted to see the wikipedia page for something I would search Wikipedia

You mean 3 were sponsored ads followed by 10 organic listings.

I typed in something to do with the premier league, and got about 10 pages of bets this and odds that. Nothing in relation to what I was looking for.

Looks like the only way to get on the first several pages is to pay

Buying Motorola wont make a lot of difference will it?
They already have a huge chunk of the mobile market, Android, and i believe they have their own branding on a specific few phones too.
