Hi all.
I need to place a very small amount (about 4 sheets total) of mosaic tiles on a surface surrounding a sink. (ie, will be placed on the top of a sink unit around the sink itself)
I'm assuming regular waterproof grout will not adhere to melamine so it was suggested to me to just use No Nails glue adhesive.
Obviously I'm a bit sceptical (sp?) that this will work so thought my best option was to ask the experts here. :)

Needless to say, the edges round the sink basin itself will be siliconed both before and after tiling.

Could anyone suggest how best to stick ceramic mosaic tiles to a melamine as well as a wooden surface please?

Also, which hand tool is best to use to cut 2cm ceramic tiles in a diagonal direction (so that the squares become triangles) to use to cut in around the edging of the sink please?

I suppose the question is How long do you want them to last'?

With the money going into the project... my lifetime at least!! lol

Tiling on melamine??? you must be either joking or mad...

I came here to ask for 'advice'. I understand now from both replies that the tiling task isn't feasible so I'll scrap that plan but politer and/or more explainable replies wouldn't have gone amiss! :(

If there was a way of deleting the OP I would do it, sadly there isn't! :(

My apologies if I have offended... ..we need to look at alternatives..where is the melamine and what exactly are you hoping to achieve??

I've constructed an undersink unit in my downstairs toilet. The top of the unit is white melamine which I'm not fussed on keeping. I was considering tiling over the top of the unit with a sheet of mosaic tiles. Next to the unit, I'll be constructing another unit from scratch and using wood for that top. Is it possible to adhere the same tiles to that surface as well as the melamine surface so that the tiles match flows through the whole of the top surfaces??

Melamine, is not ideal for many reasons ie: the surface itself is smooth & slippery, you cannot key the surface as this will expose the chipboard, you could try priming it with Acryllic primer, then using a waterproof mosaic ready mix adhesive, then grout with a flexible grout. Also there may be quite alot of movement within the chipboard, grout still may crack in time, try replacing the top with knauf aquapanel, then adhering the mosaics and flexible grout. A diy plasplugs wet cutter will do the job.

After a lot of research, advice and consideration, I've decided to go down the aquapanel route. Will be purchasing that on Wednesday along with all the necessary accessories (screws, etc). Might as well put the money in now and get a few years extra life out of the completed job eh! ;)
