You gotta be kidding...

Painted a communal staircase the other day, and as always had WET PAINT signs everywhere.

Now......During the glossing this guy came up to me and asked why the signs were only in English as he was Polish. And he didn't seem to be joking either. Christ, did the guys in white overalls, all these things called sheets on the ground, and the overpowering smell of gloss not give him any clue to what was being done???

I don't intend to be racist or xenophobic by saying this, but I wonder if this may be the shape of things to come.

You should have asked him how he knew the sign was in English.

We were discussing a similar thing last night with a teacher friend of mine and she was saying that she went on a training course to a school in a big city somewhere in England and all the signs were in 6 different languages for all the different ethnic groups. I thought it was bad here having everything in English and Welsh (even wet paint signs!)

They advertise some jobs in my regional newspaper in 3 languages. Not sure how it would work though if you got a job based on the advert for it being in a different language than the people in the workplace speak. :dunno:

Or asked him why all the signs in Poland aren't in English too!

Tried to find a Caf for breakfast on the Old Kent Road today. All of them were foreign serving cakes and coffee. No wonder that place is only worth Two Quid in Monopoly.

I did some refurb work at British Gas HQ in Croydon many years ago. One of the jobs was to put up a dwarf partition between the office bods and the telephone tarts. Finish partition off with a timber capping and gloss it up.

They all know what is being done. There is me paint brush in one hand, tin in the other. Lady stands next to me and leans on the partition and then exclaims.....''wet paint''. I exclaimed back as I held up my tin and brush, No 5hit!

Some office bods are as thick as you like, more solid than the desks they sit at.

Trades who don't speak English are my pet peeve. IMHO they can be downright dangerous to work near. When I've worked in Europe (Germany and France) I've been expected to speak enough of the language to get by, so I expect the same of foreign trades here

And now foreign nurses & doctors are trying to change the rules on the English Language test - because they are in the EU and it disrupts their human rights - stuff that, I'm more concerned with my human safety!

Our local council advertise jobs for foreign people simply by stating in the advert that xxxx are under represented on our workforce so applications from these are most welcome.
What they actually mean is that all applications from these groups will result in an interview (regardless of qualifications/suitability) for the position.
Makes my blood boil to see this PC carp. :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Dyna,
Get new signs printed with:

Zwilżają *Fuc*ing* Malować (barwa)

Just translates from Polish to "Wet Fuc*in Paint"

I phoned Lewisham council years back when they were advertising for 'black play workers'. On complaining about racism I was told it was perfectly legal. The nursery was virtually filled with black children and if a white one was employed a lot of parents would not send their children there!!!!

I complained to Barking and Dagenham council too when they were publicising all the things they were doing to help 'ethnic minorities'. One thing they were starting to do was actively recruit to reflect the ethnicity of the local population. Figures were also published on the amount of reported racist incidents. Pathetically nearly anything you can do or say was counted as racist. If a white meals on wheels worker apologised to an indian because they couldn't understand what they were trying to say in pidgeon English, it was logged as a racist incident if the indian complained!!

Used to do alterations on the offices of the Metrapolitan Police Authority. If a rozzer called in to speak to one of the reps and called the receptionist 'love' on the phone she would have to log it as a sexist remark!!

We had a survey to fill in for the council last month, on local issues etc etc. Sent to 'the occupier' meant to be anonymous and returned by a certain date. I haven't replied as it won't make a difference, all they are interested in is the views of the Africans. Got a new form from them last week asking to fill it in as we hadn't returned one yet pmsl.........I will be fecking doing it now and adding a lot of A4 paper to it.
