tiling adhesive and grout

Post by dave195 »

Hi.

I have recently tiled my kitchen and I am now wondering if I should have used an a white pre-mixed adhesive/grout rather than a seperate adhesive and grout because there are signs of the greyish adhesive on some edges of the tiles and this slightly spoils the appearance of a really good job.

Any advice or opinions are most welcome

Cheers

All in one addy and groutd rubbish, the bucket it comes is worth more than the stuff inside

Use bagged adhesive in grey if you work cleanly or a White bagged adhesive if you need something a bit more forgiving (some natural stone tiles also require a whit adhesive so it doesn't stain through the tile)

Clean the work as you go along. If you don't then the only option is to go around with a stanley knife and clean off any snots of adhesive from tile edges before you grout.

in my experience its always best to ask the tile retailer what their favoured grout is... failing that, certainley get a grout that roughly matches the colour of the tiles...

As a rule of thumb, match the adhesive to the grout ie: dark grout = grey adhesive and vice versa, saves time after fixing and prior to grouting cleaning up the joints if deep bedding etc.
NEVER USE FIX AND GROUT READY MIXED

Got to a project where it was labour only, the materials on site already, the shop had supplied grey flex adhesive, white 600x300 porcelain and white grout...hmmmmm!!! I exchanged the adhesive, retailers don't always think as they just sell it
