Tile then fit shower enclosure or fit enclosure and tile?!?!

I had planned to tile my wall (so 800mm worth of tile on each wall plus wherever the last tile finishes) and then just fit my enclosure on top for ease. Is this the done thing or should I be fitting the enclosure and then tiling up to the enclosure?

Its a rental property if that makes a difference, thanks

The shower enclosure should be fitted on top of the tiles, (rtfm).

When using a tiling upstand for the shower tray, obviously that row of tiles will be "kicked out" at the bottom, does that not cause problems when fitting the enclosure over it?

The tiles will only be pushed out at the bottom if the tray is incorrectly installed.

Trays need to be let into the wall.

Tbh I dont agree with that. The upstand is a T shape, if the tray is "let" into the wall, it wont fit.

I agree with RO on this one. Sloping the bottom row of tiles looks awful and you get a gap at the back of the wall profiles. But it's your house you can do as you please

Actually it depends on the make and manufacturer of the tray and enclosure.

Continentals tile first, UK tile second, some enclosures wont fit the UK way.

I take it this is added on and not part of the shower tray. The trays we use have an upstand as part of them. hence the letting of the tray into the walls.

Sorry yes this is a enclosure with an easy plumb kit, which has a plastic/rubber type T shaped upstand which the instructions state to silicone onto the tray/wall when fitting the tray into place, and then tile down over it. I doubt it would kick the tiles out much, 2/3mm at the bottom at most, but like I said it will then not let the enclosure verticals sit against the wall? The only way I could see to solve this was to fit the enclosure and then tile inside it, thus my original question of which is the norm.

Aaah it is an add on. These are normally thin and so the tiles will still be in line. Bottoms won't kick out.

never used this, always use the Mira trays that have an upstand to them, these are the type you have to let in.

Just seal onto your tray and then put tray into position and tile.

Of course if your tray has tapered sides then you will probably have to let it in or the bottom tiles will kick out.
