Advanced apprenticeship

Hello!

Ive done a BTEC First and a BTEC National in ICT. I have been looking for jobs over the summer but no luck so I thought ide try my luck with carpentry as its something which also interests me. However, I realised with my current qualifications in ICT I may be able to get on to a advanced apprenticeship as I have a merit overall for my BTEC National. I did read you need 5 GCSE's of C and above however my GCSE resulted sucked (I got 2 C's in Science as it was a double award). On the good side of things my BTEC National that I did is equivalent to A-levels.

Any opinions on the advanced apprenticeship?

Good way to go if you're talking about what I think you're talking about, apprenticeship where you come out with a HND?
In many ways they can be better than a degree depending on what you want to go into because of the experience you gain, if you find the right one anyway ie. not getting stuck as the 1st line support guy making tea.

find a niche as well, dont go for something where you are doing everything all the time, stick to servers and networks if your into that, support if you are not into making much money, databases if you're looking for a minimum 35k a year afterwards, programming and devlopment if your willing to put in the time and experience to get paid.

I agree with root, if you get the chance, specialize and not just in a role ie programmer, unix administrator , database adminstrator but in niche type products ie MQ, WAS, B2B, DB2, Oracle, SAP etc... this makes a huge difference if you fancy going contracting as most companies will hire you with specific applications in mind.
