YEAR DATING STAMPED ON ELECTRICAL CABLES QUESTION

Post by Martin »

I have a question if any one could please answer it. I was clearing out some old red and black t+e cable 1.0,1.5 ,2.5 i noticed most of the cables in the past that i have ever used has year dates stamped on it. but some 1.5 and 2.5 t+e i found did not have a date stamped on the cable even though the part cable drums are not that old one said 2003 on the drum but not the cable they were all stamped BS 6004 though. I was under the impression that all installation cable was year dated or is this not a standard thing on the old red and black. If any one knows the answer i am dying to know the answer please.

Hi Martin,

I asked the sparks at work about this and he says that they never used to put a date of manufacture on it, but they do now. Exactly when they started to do this I do not know.

I have some reels od cable in the garage that are a few years old, I will check them as soon as I get chance and see if they have a date on.
