transfered £2000 from my internet savings account into my current account, then went along to nationwide to get it out in cash (for new van).

"you have to order that amount of money"

"what"

" we dont carry that amount of cash to withdraw over the counter without ordering it"

When I bought my second car I wanted to pay cash too. I phoned up the bank the day before and the next day I walked out with £5000 in my handbag. It's ridiculous that you have to give notice, surely they have safes with some money in them.

and i didnt know they have dropped the amount you can get out the cash machine from £500 to £300.

did i not here a story some time ago where the bank manager gave the cleaner the master key set for the entire bank, instead of just the front door, office doors

Hank - I had something similar with Nationwide last year - needed cash to pay for villa holiday - what they suggested as a workround is get money from counter up to card limit - then go to machine outside and do same - repeat next day.

Not sure if it was counter first, then machine or otherway round

Also, when you hand over the readies, be prepared to answer questions about where you got it!! not sure what the figure is (may be £5k?) but if you take over a certain amount of cash, you need to report it to the autorities with the details of who gave it to you!

got £500 today, then back in morning for the other £1500.

Just seems pathetic...........its 2K, not 20K

yup - Wife had abbey account and we needed to pay for patio and paying cash (for a discount, if you know what I mean

) - called them up - said "oh, you have to come in to the branch to prove your identity to REQUEST cash (not get it, just ASK to order it)" so did that and went in ..."Sorry, computers down, come back tomorrow to request it"

I bank with firstdirect, which is owned by HSBC and owns Midland.

I telephoned first direct and told them that I wanted to collect £8000 in cash to buy a car the next day. They phoned the midland and the next day I went in to collect the money and they looked at me with a blank expression

Apparently you cannot order the money through first direct

Eventually they gave me the cash, but it was hard work and it was as if they were giving it me out of their own pockets!

When I was building my house I needed £20k to £30k a month for a few months. (Phew!). You don't leave that sort of money in a current account, so I was shifting £ around all the time.

The maximum you can move around on a personal internet account I found was £10k. What a pia.

Natwest find more than £500 cash a problem

Lloyds are happy with £2k without notice.

dont go with halifax you'll que more in there than at B&Q.
its funny how if you go in at 2pm, and ask for £5000, they will say 'cant give you that amount today you have to order it', they say that with out even checking!!! you think about it, how big will the banks float be? and then all it will take is 10 people to go in and deposit £500, and theres your £5000, now you get a busy bank in a town centre, my arse they dont have that money in, thats what a banks for!!!!
and dont even get me started with direct debt charge's!!! they dont it to me years ago, i think it was the very first one id set up, it was short £1.47, and they tried to charge me the £30, i went it to see some one, and asked them to drop it explained that it was my first one and that it wont happen again, they stuck to they guns so i took my card out of my wallet and cut it up in front of them, got up and walked out, and just changed where my wages were getting paid, never heard from them again!!!

Cash machine first, then counter. It takes a while for the ATM transaction to work its way throught the system.
