First of all i would like to say hello to you all, And what a great site this is. Being a bit of a diy man myself this is like being a kid in a sweet shop. (BRILLIANT) Took me ages to get here but looks well worth the effort. (THE PROBLEM) Well my built in single electric fan oven has just gone and died on me. so being a bit on the skint side, Due to christmas, I thought I would buy a budget priced fan oven. And save approx £100 By fitting it myself. Well when i took the old oven out i was greatfullly suprised to find it had been fitted with a normal 13amp plug. So Brilliant me thinks (Doddle Job), Not so. The new oven as to be hard wired. So now im a bit stumped as to how to do this. Do i wire it into the hob which is hard wired, Relay style. Or do i have to wire both hob and oven all the way back to the main cooker switch socket, Which would mean taking tiles off and channeling through the plaster (Dread). So im hoping one or two of you chaps out there might have Some suggestions, Diagrams, etc etc. (PLEASE)

What is the rating of the new oven (Kw) ?

fairly certain its possible to buy a small oven that can be plugged in. otherwise they have to be seperate from the hob i beleive. (so a sparky told me anyway.)

Hello, Thanks for your reply. The oven arrives friday 16th dec. But sales chap tells me it is over 3kw, And that any oven or appliance with a power rating over this has to be hardwired by law. Due to low budget i could,nt aford one that connects via plug. They were all hotpoint indesit and hoover models, And were expensive. Normaly i would have paid the extra but christmas has knocked a hole in my wallet

see how much over it is when it comes, showing a customer there kettle last week it was 3.1Kw. you do get some ovens at 3.1 but generally they will want a 16A fuse in the manufacturers inst, which you have to follow if you want the warrantee. If you have a fault within the oven and it is connected to the hob, there would be no fuse to blow. read the M I when it comes if it states 16/20A then it needs a dedicated radial back to the board, it a pain as some 2.6 kw forign ovens require this also in the M I.
