Tiling over tiles

I am about to comence tiling my bathroom floor. A plumer friend of mine suggested tiling over the tiles that are already there. This is a downstairs bathroom with a concrete base so there is zero movement. He told me that as well as being the easier route, this would also allow for better drainage of the bath as the new bah would be higher on these tiles. Is this the right course of action? Will it work as this is my preferred method.
Thanks

I don't endorse tiling over tile whether on floors or walls. You can do it though as long as the existing tiles are sound.
Maybe you need to mention to your ''plumber'' that baths come with adjustable which allow the height to be set to suit the bath panel or a two part bath panel.

The extra 10mm or so in floor height wouldn't have any noticeable effect on the rate at which the bath drains (one would have thought that a "plumber" would have known that!) - but it WILL leave you with a step to deal with at the door, and may also mean that you'll struggle to mate up your toilet pan with its waste pipe.
By the time you've cleaned the existing tiles thoroughly enough to be sure that the new tile adhesive will stick well, altered the soil pipe, undercut the door architraves, and re-fit the door, you could have done the job properly and ripped the existing ones up.

If you leave the old tiles there are far more problems that you may encounter with taking up the old floor. With a concrete base then it should not be to hard to get up the old floor, clean up any old adhesive and then lay a new floor with less risk of tiles coming off in the future, worrying about doors and pipes etc.

Have you got an SDS+ drill with roto stop? Brilliant for chiseling up tiles and it will be much easier than a bolster and club hammer.

No I haven't, but it is a very small area. It might take an hour or two to get them up and another to get rid of any crap left over I reckon. Just needs a bit of effort.
