Hi All,
I have a house where the previous owner had a fettish for 50w halogen spot lights in just about every ceiling. Since these are begining to die now, and are using lots of energy (up to 400W a room), i wondered if you had any advice on being able to replace these with like-for-like LED spots, ie do any of the drivers need replacing as well, any recommendations for good soft glow LEDs (ie a more filament blub glow rather than white/blue light)?

I recently bought some from a seller on ebay and they are pretty good and just 9w each.

I seriously hate halogen lamps as they get so bloomin hot!

The LED ones I bought were not cheap and cost about £80 for 9 lamps

9w in a low energy bulb will be around 35w-40 normal bulb with an 9w led bulb being around 70 to 90w dependant on type these are the levels for normal lighting situations

i have a 10w 50/50 single led above my head and it will give a 100w normal bulb a run for its money

If you have single transformers to each 50w halogen there is no need to change these transformers for led drivers. If you have got say a 20-60 va transformer currently installed you can wire upto 6 x 9w leds to the one transformer (a combined wattage of 54w), although it will not run 1 or 2 as the combined wattage is below 20w (I hope this makes sense). I bought some GU10 LED bulbs for my kitchen from here from Link removed, Spammer banned. Mod 2. and they have stood the test of time so far. I hope this helps.
