Buying De Walt Tools in the US

Post by Monkey Wrench »

This is a really great site and the forum members seem knowledgable and helpful unlike a few other forums I have consulted before.

I regularly visit the US and would be keen to buy some cordless tools eg 18V De Walt - the prices are much better!! The question is whether there are issues associated with 230V and 115V mains for the battery and/or battery charger? I assume that the battery is the same regardless of where it originates. So presumably if I bought the tools and batteries in the US I could just get the charger in the UK.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have some Dewalt tools that were sourced from the US, including batteries. They work fine with the British chargers

The only problem is that you may need to have the tools repaired eventually and so you may need to source the spare parts from the US as some models are different to what you would get in Europe.

Thanks guys. I will go ahead with a purchase on a future visit. This current trip I've got bathroom tiles to bring back!

Interesting that the spare parts may be different. Nothing is ever simple.

Cheers.

How are you bringing the tiles back?
The weight of tiles would mean you couldn't bring too many on a flight. Or how much does the courier charge?

Hi Money Wrench, Welcome to the nuthouse :hello2:

Just be careful not to buy adjustable spanners in the US - they don't use the metric system
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

dewalt chargers work from 110v to 250v 40-50Mhz, so you just change the plug (after checking the sticker of course)

The saving so so much, that its worth it, and i would assume the parts are the same worldwide? Have anyone had usa tools fixed over here?

Look on ebay, as it may be cheaper just to get them posted to uk. All my dewalt stuff is usa sourced

Were they all power tools or something different?

Any chance of a link to where you buy the tools from?
