My multimeter will act as a data logger, using a D9 female serial lead to the computer, Unfortunately, my new computer is USB only. How can I make it usable for a modest cost?

Yeah, USB serial leads are the only way these days - unless you're prepared to fit an internal PCI serial card?

Those multimeters usually use 'simple' RS232 therefore practically any USB/Serial converter will work.

kelly's right, some USB/serial converter leads can be a bit ropey for more complex tasks - but just for datalogging then pretty much any of the cheap ones on the market will do.

For some of the more complex applications we do at work we've found that a serial/PCMCIA adapter works better (if your laptop has PCMCIA slots!)
