sunken doormat

I want to fit one of these by my back door; you know the doormats which are imbedded into the floor so the top is level with the rest of the flooring.
there's a problem though, being that I havenever done this kind of thing before so it's all guesswork for me: now I'm thinking of having the normal raised floor beds (it's floorboards) with a cut out section for the size of the mat, and line the edges with steel / aluminium edging strips. but I don't know if this is A the correct procedure for this and B what to put (if anything) underneath the mat. it would be a standard coconut fibre mat I would be looking at using, so they are fairly deep on their own anyway
someone who's done this sort of thing before so can give me a few pointers, or a how to do it properly would be very much appreciated

mmm interesting the floor will be 21mm thick is you mat any thicker ??
you will need to build a platform suspended between the joists and under the floor

it will have to be a strong plaform unless you want to have a trapdoor to get rid of unwanted visitors.....

it will obviously be as strong as the flooring plus a bit more

the floorboards are all fine, in excellent strong condition (just spent years underneath dire carpets and ill fitted vinyl), and I'm raising the height from them approximately just under an inch and a half (all in; with raised floorbeds, adhesive and tiles).
the doormat I'm looking at getting (plain coconut fibre / coir) is approximately that height as well.

I think the way I'm wording this isn't helping, and possibly creating confusion
by raised floorbeds, what I mean is boarding over the existing floorboards to make it suitable to take tiles, which in turn is raising the level of the floor

bottom off page 8 may work well if clipped to the floorcovering

my suggestion would be to buy 3 mats the same or make sure what you buy a size you know is still available at a later date

Doormat stuff is available cut to any size you want; from a carpet supplier.

Overboard with 6mm hardie boards or similar ...glued and screwed fix tiles leaving out the area you propose to carpet... Make sure you get a nice even cut with the tiles around this area,so get your set out correct, using carpet to tile threshold fit carpet into...you will either get it level or slightly raised...
