Remedial work to tiling on Impey aqua dec

Post by SMC55 »

We had Impey aqua dec installed as part of complete bathroom refit just two years ago. The Aqua dec is on raised plinth, from day 1 we thought grouting around drain was not sound and that the tiles around the drain were unstable/moving. Clearly the case now - Impey think there must be water getting under tiles, possibly voids in the tile cement. Our relationhsip with builder who installed it is beyond frosty level - refuses to have anything more to do with installation. There is no sign of water leaking anywhere it is just tiles are ""squidgy"..Does anyone know if there is any chance we can get tiles off without damaging membrane? We have more floor tiles so aren't concerned about breaking them but would rather not have to have whole aqua dec taken out re covered etc..

removing the tiles will almost probibly damage the membrane, once the original tiles have been removed, the lifetime warrantee will be void.
saying this, your problem won't go away until the former has been stablized as it sounds as if its not been fully supported underneath or the framework that has raised the former is moving.
repairing the tanking is pretty simple if the tile adhiesive comes off ok, by patching over tha damage but be sure of sealing all connections with the jointing compound supplied.
the former should be supported fully underneath with 18mm ply and a single part cement based flexi tile adhiesive should be used.
hope this helps.
shaun.
