wifi Kindle password problem

We run our laptops through a Belkin wireless router. Mrs A got a wifi Kindle but when she tries to connect to the router it asks for a password. We got a computer-bloke in to set the system up originally, he is now AWOL and we have no idea how to find out what the password is. Mrs A can download stuff via her laptop but there are a few bits she wants to do which need it connected to the Wireless router.

Is there any way of finding out the password or resetting it?

Stating the bleedin' obvious but I'm a total technonumpty so please keep it simple!

It's not on a sticker or written on the underside of the router by any chance is it?

It is the security key from the router that the Kindle needs as the 'password'. I had a problem where I needed my router security key and I contacted the support chat thing and it was easy to sort out. I suggest that you contact the Belkin Help Desk and I am sure they will guide you through the process to get your key. When you have it write it down and stick it under the router as Inky has said.

On a computer connected to the wireless network, hold down the windows key (usually to the left of the space bar) and press R.

Type cmd and press enter.

In the command box that opens, type ipconfog and press enter.

You might have to click on the arrow on the right hand side to scroll up, but look for some number next to default gateway, probably 192.168.2.1 for a Belkin.

Open your browser, probably Internet Explorer, and type these numbers into the addres bar instead of http:\\www whatever.

If you are prompted for a password leave it blank and click Submit. If it doesn't work the person that set it up for you changed the default password.

On the left hand side, click the Wireless menu and look for the wireless password. If you can't read it, change it and save the settings.

You will then need to enter this password on any device you want to connect wirelessly.

Not sure if this was fixed, but your rotuer might also support WPS too (again, I'm hungover so my terminology may be off).

It's a button on the top of the router to press with a PIN number on the sticker on the bottom.

You press/hold the button to activate the pairing process.
The kindle then connects and asks for a PIN
Enter PIN
pairing complete
Router will go back to normal and everythign continues ticketyboo.

If no button, ignore all of this.

Thanks for all the advice, sorry for the delay in getting back, managed to totally scramble my wifi connection (told you I was a technonumpty!) so I've been off-air all week.

At last managed to locate my computer-bloke who came round and sorted everything for us - ever so nice, didn't even call me an eejit. Meanwhile Mrs A is spending a fortune on Kindle books.

Note to self: don't fiddle with stuff you've no idea about.
