Just fitting a howdens kitchen, base units are 575 plus the door. Should these have 600 worktops on or 616?

Dunno.. Never fitted Howdens units...but logic says 575 plus 20mm for the door is 595mm...so you'll need to fit the deeper worktop....

A standard kitchen carcass depth is 570mm. On top of that it's normal to allow 18mm for the door and 2mm for the gap between the door and the carcass - gives 590mm. Standard depth tops are 600mm which doesn't give you much to play with as it always looks better to have a 10 to 15mm overhang at the front. Even allowing for 6mm at the back for tiling your walls need to be pretty straight to accommodate this. I've resorted to Howdens tops in the past to deal with out of straight walls on "standard" kitchen units, but equally I've also cut down lengths of breakfast bar top to overcome badly wonky walls and in some instances I've built-out the wall with dot and dab to correct the problems. That is the main reason why I always install the base cabs first, then the tops and finally the upper units because if you go upper cabs first you simply can't deal with wonky walls that easily.
