Who Are They Kidding?

I am thinking about having a glass room added to the house.
I've gathered some quotations, which include a couple from big name conservatory companies. The quotes, in my humble and uninformed opinion are way over the top.
It makes me wonder how much the sales guys take for commission? 20%? 35%? 50%? Does anybody know?
I have one quote that gives the price as 62,000, and then in the next line, says, 25,000 discount, with no reason given. How can anyone take that kind of a quotation seriously?
I'm looking for a way round it by using local 'experts' instead of losing sleep dealing with the big players.
How much commission do the big names sales guys take?

I am not sure about how much they get but can you not play them off with each other for further discount?

My dad got his cheaper as he had it sit on a brick wall so not full glass. He got a friend to build the wall.

it depends how they sell it, usually they will come round tell you all the things you want give you an extorsionate price then ask you what you'd be comfortable with. they'll tell you that your price is way too low and add on a hundred quid or so and convince you that your're getting a good deal. I think their commision is on a sliding scale from 10% to 60% depending on what they can get away with.

Quotes vary massively as do the quality of the products they are quoting on. It's hard to tell the difference just by looking at them unless you know your way round a few of the systems/brands

You are better off going to a local company that do not employ a team of high pressure salesmen -and supply a good product. I would avoid anybody that says it's x amount but buy today I'll knock 30% off. Where abouts are you in the country?

Everest are knocking 33% off at the moment. The prices they charge they could knock of 70% and still make a handsome profit.

The profit margins must be phenomenal if they can dish up such massive discounts.
I am not going near the big names.
