DVD COMPATIBILITY

Morning all.
Have recently replaced my DVD recorder and have found that discs recorded
on the old Panasonic won't play on the new LG.
Both machines are multi-format i.e. DVD-R,RW. DVD+R,RW and
both play pre-recorded discs no problem.
All the recordings are DVD-RW,however when i try to play a disc that was recorded on the Panasonic on the LG
or vice versa,i get a message saying the disc has to be
formatted and all information on the disc will be erased.
Thought i might be able to transfer the old discs to my PC and then burn them
on to new discs but my PC won't play discs that have been recorded from either.
Any ideas ?
Cheers

Have seen this with RW's before when the session is not closed. Most software warns that the disc cannot be used elsewhere unless you do this.
You then need to format the disc to be able to re-write again.
To be fair, if you look online you can pick up a cake of CD-R media (100, 200, 500....) for not many pounds. These will work anywhere and avoid the issues you are having.....just throw/shred/snap old discs and use another each time.....

Thanks for the reply B.G.
Sounds like a plan for future recordings but the recorded DVD'S i'm having the
problems with are all family stuff, kids growing up,holidays etc so don't want to lose them.
A friend suggested i connect the two recorders together with a Scart lead,AV out on the old
one to AV in on the new, then press play on one and record on the other.
I could then put everything on to DVD-/+R
Sound feasible ?

Sounds like a reasonable plan to me - copy them from old to new onto DVD-R (not RW) and all should be good.
Out of interest, have you tried to play them on a computer? Most computer DVD drivers would have a better chance of reading them - if they do, then it's much easier to rip them and re-burn onto better media - zero loss in quality then too, as opposed to SCART copy.
Try them in as many computers as you can get your hands on.

i would suggest putting them in a LG pc reader add a readme file and close the session that in my opinion is undoubtedly the problem. if you cant get hold of one or it doesnt work then ask around freinds family to borrow/use theirs add a commercial to the disk and close the session
hope this helps
ps - an lg dvd writer should read the disks
