Metal garden gate... where from?

Post by Maz123 »

Hi all,

My Mum wants a gate fitted to the side ally of her house. Unfortunately it's a shared access for next door too and although the man has agreed to having a gate fitted he seems unwilling to spend any money on it. We had a quote from a local guy, seemed reasonable to me but the neighbour thought it expensive and wanted to get one from B&Q and have his mate fit it. I'm in the trade and would rather just find the time to do it myself as quite honestly I don't trust his mate as far as I could throw him

I do not want to buy a gate from B&Q or the like, as they tend to be a bit crap, also the gap is 3'6" wide 7'9" high and although the height is fairly flexible, too much of a gap at the top & my Mum will worry that someone will climb over, she can't help it she just worries

So does anyone know somewhere I can get a gate suitable for the opening that's there? I've tried googling but there are endless results and I would prefer to go with a company that's recommended, as it's a bit of pot luck with google.

Thanks

I've dealt with a company called cannock gates. Sent me what I ordered and delivered when they said they would.
I ordered a set of primed and black painted iron scroll driveway double gates and posts after I widened a driveway for a family member. I ordered one of the cheapest gates they sell and they were quite flmsy but still look OK several years later. Think they were less than £150 all in for 2 x 5 foot gates and matching posts a few years back.
Not sure if they deliver nationwide or not but certainly to a large area. I'm about 50 miles from them. They are based in the midlands.
They have a wide range from cheap and nasty to expensive quality ones in all sizes depending on how much you have to spend.

A mate of mine makes quality gates, I have been working with him on a large job in a chemical plant for the last 2 days-

He installs all over the country for large jobs but for a one off small gate you would have to live within a reasonable distance of Burnley

There must be thousands of firms that can fabricate and install custom gates etc.

There are thousands, that's why I want to try to narrow it down to a trusted/recommended firm.

She lives in Kidbrooke, London SE3

unfortunately not near burnley :-(

And thanks mikew will have a look at them :-)
