Hi

I was in my attic tonight fitting a new light and I noticed some white mouldy looking stuff on one of the beams/joists. I took a couple of photos so if anyone recognises what this is and how to treat it I'd appreciate the advice.

The timber is not wet or damp to touch but when I knock it it sounds slightly denser and doesn't resonate(?) like the unaffected portion. The noise is only slightly different.

It looks like water has been leaking onto it at some point in the past.

As precaution I would treat it with cuprinol 5 star wood treatment.

You will need a mask and gloves and goggles, just brush it on and let it soak in and it should stop anything happening to the beam then.
