Rules of engagement.
I wish people were taught to argue properly as school. The rules are:
Listen to the other person and address the points they have raised
Do not broaden the argument out to irrelevant issues. Focus on the main issue.
Do not over exaggerate
Do not resort to personal insults when you are loosing the argument, with the caveat that you are allowed to use the phrase, "Please could you adopt a constructive attitude"
I write this as I have just had one of the most pointless arguments of my life on another forum, aarrgghhh with someone whose mind set was you don't agree so you are an idiot!

I was hoping it would be concerning the aerodynamic properties of other peoples hats, or something equally trivial, but it's probably not. I do hope it's not the EU.dynamod wrote:Wouldn't be about scuttle/kettle liner by any chance?![]()

Re: Rules of engagement.
Just read the thread I think you mean (all 11 pages of it) and gotta agree with you Puma. With the benefit of hindsight, there seemed to be a salesman's determination to ignore what others were saying and press their own viewpoint/agenda down everyone's throats regardless.
It's very disappointing when posts/threads turn personal, as it serves no purpose whatsoever, other than winding everyone up and inflaming the situation.
Now put the kettle on and we'll all have a brew...

Puma is so right. Try Facebook for some prime examples of what he means.
I was called a lunatic because I asked a college graduate to justify her argument, when students HAVE to be able to justify what they submit.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Re: Rules of engagement.
I think you won that argument there Feva
On another post it turned out that Keith was in fact the manufacturer of the kettle and scuttle liners hence his angry defence of them. He has now been banned.

Re: Rules of engagement.
Surprised he lasted as long if I'm being honest.
You destroy other peoples trust in you by pulling these stunts, your future ain't gonna be bright. I personally wouldn't buy his liners on a matter of pure principle, no matter how good they are. Maybe just me.
