Can some kind soul please tell me where I can find the full open-ended AVG free download, please? Had it on my old PC but when I try to find it now I keep going round in circles with just the free 30 day trial, or it diverts me onto other websites that try to make me download "Pc Tune-ups" and suchlike. Just want free, basic protection. Many thanks for any help,

In my opinion, AVG is not what it used to be and causes as many issues as it solves. I think the issue has been fixed but a recent AVG update made most PC's almost unusable.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security ... y/mse.aspx
Is free and works perfectly on the machines I have installed it on.

I've used Avast for about three years now since ditching AVG for that very reason, it was OK at one time, but a new version I installed did slow the PC down considerably, amongst other problems.

Just updated all mine with no problems Ayjay, other than it's a pain in the butt to get the free one when you renew.

I probably could have made that a bit clearer; Avast is fine, (mine updates automatically) the problems were with AVG.

Yes the updates to the data is automatic, I have trouble when they update the version.

Just got fed up with various problems with AVG so today I ditched it for windows defender
which is free and it found something Avg missed- some crap written to my Host file
but Avast has had very good reviews

Many thanks for the helpful replies, folks. AVG just kept trying to make me buy add-ons I didn't want, and Kaspersky wanted to remove some Microsoft thingy on my new PC which I didn't like the sound of. Now running Avast, which seems just the job. Thanks again.

and compare yourself the differing anti virus software,
but i do say i have used avg for many years now, and its been great for me.
Avast is also good but your choice m8.
but do make your own choice.
Also i use ccleaner it is a brillant piece of software.

Buy proper protection. This doesn't cover you against anything. Other than big obvious Things. Dont be tight, its only like £20 a year / 0.055p Per Day.
Otherwise use Avast.

To an extent I would think ones browsing habits and type of sites visited would say a great deal in what security you need.
I'm still not convinced a lot of the viruses don't come from the virus protectors so we buy their products.
