Makita 10mm Cordless Drill

Hi - this is my 1st post.....

So got my Makita (Model:6010D) out and put battery on charge. Usually there's a red light on the charger but everything appeared dead. Changed the fuse on the plug to no avail.
As this is very old thought went through my head to bin the lot, but then decided to open up the charger to see if any loose wires.....
Nothing obvious but on further inspection I noticed another fuse (2Amp 20mm) which appeared to have blown. So I replaced it and put adapter back together.
Plugged in charger and battery and the red light came on .... alas only for a few seconds - 2Amp had blown again.
So before I do actually chuck it - has anyone got any ideas as to what's wrong and can I fix it?

heeelllooo and welcome smellybits

the internal fuse protects the charger
try running without the battery then after 10 mins insert another battery
does anything look discoloured or out off place

Thanks for the reply - nothing looks discoloured or out of place.
Tried a new fuse and left plugged in without battery and fuse didn't blow.
As soon as I put battery in - fuse popped within 2 secs.
At this stage don't have another battery to try it with (they're about £17 on ebay!).

Would you say it's the battery at fault?
Don't want to spend if waste of time.

quite possibly a cell has gone reverse polarity

has it been left unused for quite a while

Yes not used it for over 12 months - it's also very old to begin with.
I'll get a new one off ebay and keep my fingers crossed.

after around 5 years dependant on several things quality batteries will be near the end off there lives holding around 20-50% charge
