How much can i expect to pay to get a new floor laid approx 11m by 11m? Does i depend on the type of tile or stone? If we buy the stone, what would the labour cost/how long would it take? We are thinking about a good quality tile or slate. If we did this ourselves how would we go about this? Room is a living room, asphalt floor with ground water problems. Is it similar at all to laying patios as my partner has experience of this as a gardener.

As BA has said, you really can't estimate it.

For a good tiler, probably looking at around £25/m2 for porc/ceramic & £30/m2 for stone + Materials.

You can probably find one charging £15/m2 but you've got to think of the quality of the job.

They will also probably want to use a DPM as well and will more than likely charge you cost + labour for this.

Not going to be a cheap job but if you want it done right, gotta get it done first time and get it looking great.

someone said 2 coats of dpm then sharp sand blinding followed by 50mm concrete screed. Does this sound right? How long to you leave before each of those things?

Sounds about right.

Honestly not sure, would be best to ask the person doing the floor about this.

I'd recommend the Ardex DPM, we've had some guys tell us it's bees knees.
