iPhones
Who is ordering the new one??
Lots of people I know have just jumped straight into the shop and gone for these contracts:
24 months
208 quid upfront to buy phone
41 quid a month (can change it after 12 months
= 1192 (or 950ish if they change tarrif after 12 months)
Madness - they must want a brain scan.
I'm waiting for this one....

Re: iPhones
Overpriced crap aimed at clueless muppets with more money than sense. (BTW, you've not included the cost of all the paid for apps which are free on Android)
At least it means you can tell the kind of person you're dealing with just by looking at their phone!

I wouldn't know one phone from another and I usually have no idea what is being talked about on phone topics.
PAYG. £20 per annum top whack.
One day it will all be firewood.

Re: iPhones
been saying it for years,my nephew keeps banging on about his IP4 i keep saying can you ring me can you send a text, yes he says
well so can i
I heard they're now going to offer a free iPhone case for all iPhone users. It's not going to help reception. But it protects the iPhone after you throw it against the wall.

Re: iPhones
If I wanted a PC with a 4 inch screen and miniscule keyboard I'd probably go for an iPhone too. Sadly I keep my PC-ing for when I'm actually sat AT a PC. My life isn't actually based on a permanent need to be connected to the internet at all times.
In other words - I've actually GOT a life.

Re: iPhones
So when I'm on site and want to look up a local supplier or check local screwfix/toolstation/etc for stock or update an invoice for the client, I'm supposed to wait until I get home to use my PC? No thanks.

Re: iPhones
A decent Android phone will do everything an iPhone can do at half the price - and without tying you into iTunes and only Apple approved apps.
I certainly ain't paying over the odds just for an apple logo on the front.

Re: iPhones
But the real cost isn't in the phone itself it's the monthly running cost, which is the same regardless of the phone make/model.
Apple haven't tied in the phone to iTunes for nearly year now.
There's loads of arguments over which is the better phone, but for me mine does everything I need. Oh and there's no Android App for the accounts software which I use too.

Re: iPhones
Hmm, I'd still say there is a reliance on it though - iTunes for me is legalised malware, it's shockingly bad. I can't understand how Microsoft have been dragged through the courts over their software being 'closed' for things like Media Player and web browsers, yet they do EXACTLY the same with Safari and iTunes.darrenba wrote:Apple haven't tied in the phone to iTunes for nearly year now.
Still, in regards to the TOTAL cost, it's not just running - you need to look at TCO, typically iPhones are much higher overall. BUT, you get a higher residual value at the end and the service at the Apple stores is second to none.

Re: iPhones
It's going to be interesting to see what the new Winmo 8 phones are going to be like. A tech mate of mine who is an Apple Geek through and through is seriously considering one.

Re: iPhones
Heard that quite a bit, the Lumia 920 seems to be causing quite a stir!
I'm happy out of contract, have been for about two years now. I tend to buy my phone outright, but I'm looking forward to seeing one in a couple of weeks myself.
No way I'm going on a 18 month contract though - 12 max. Although, I keep reading it's possible to enter into a 24 month contract and buy it outright after month one - less the VAT!! Could be an option for me.....hate monthly direct debits, it's like being pecked to death by hens.
