ogee architrave

This may sound silly to most....but we want to fit some "ogee" architrave around a door the wrong way round ! ( Thickest edge inwards,and the thin edge outwards) We like the look of it ,and the effect it gives.But is this a total "no-no".....and if repeated on the other doors in our house,would it be seen as a major joinery mistake,and not a design feature ? We have asked a few people with mixed views,but i want a few more views before we precede. (Wife wants it...i'm not sure...nuff said !)
Thanks

My Opinion .... If you like it, do it - but if you plan to be seling up in the reasonably near future, "statements" like that can cost money on the sales price you get.

Thanks.....Thats what im thinking friend.We've got to look ahead to what others will think,as we are planning to move in a year or so....and it is something that can easily be picked up on for a "few quid off " !
Thanks again.

actually the house i am working in at the moment has most of the architrave done like this, i think it is more due to incompetence than a design statement.
personally i think it looks rubbish, the main problem is that at the bottom of the door frames, the thin edge of the architrave butts up to the skirting, and doesn't look right.
if you are thinking about moving soon, then i would do it the conventional way as it will look better.

as noted above you end up with the thin edge of the architrave butting against the thicker skirting. to overcome this use plinth blocks
as for putting the architrave the wrong way round

dont forget your doors wont open much beyond 100 degrees [dependant on how much nuckle is showing] before you hit the "thick side" with the opening door

I don't think tryanythings explanation will go down vey well with Mrs MJR - He'll have to think of a way to make her change her mind so that she thinks it was HER idea
Good Luck MJR (you'll need it
)

I've ripped it off...and going down the traditional route
Mrs MJR has taken my views on board...and had a "funny five minutes",but has now seen the light.I blame Channel 4 and "Living etc"
Thanks for your honesty
