Polished porcelain tiles maintenance

Hi all,

I'm moving house next week and the new place is in need of a new make shift kitchen. The missus and I popped into topps tiles the weekend and the tiles we liked for the floor were polished porcelain white tiles.

Anyway, the guy comes over to help. He tells us that polished porcelain tiles are porous, and so need to be treated and routinely maintained with their bottle of magic solution at 32 quid per bottle.

Is that right? Do those type of tiles need that much maintenance, or was he just being a good salesman, and trying to sell us some snake oil?

I've done a bit of googling, and the wisdom of the Internet seems to suggest that they are hard wearing low maintenance tiles. So I don't know what to believe.

Some polished porcs do need to be sealed others not

But....
Topps tiles - Sealer = £32
Every other retail in the country - Sealer = £14ish

To give you an idea

Bal SPF 20KG from Topps £50 http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod2949/s ... -20KG.html

BAL SPF 20KG from someone else £30 http://www.tileexperience.co.uk/Product ... ductID=159

as above, HG sealer is about £12-14 and one bottle will do for a long time. the only thing to avoid is some people seem to think that the more you use in one go the better it is, that is not true. follow the instructions on the bottle.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll shop around for the sealer stuff and other consumables, or maybe keep looking for some other tiles that don't need sealing.
