Where to buy split pins - in Quantity.

Post by Grumps »

I've looked in the usual place, Screwfix, etc, and they only seem to do the 'kits' of assorted sizes. Looking elsewhere they either seem to be priced per item or in packs of 10 (with limited sizes).

I'm after packs of 50 or a 100, specifically at this time, 5/32" x about 1 1/2" - 2"

Does anyone know of a suitable supplier?

Cheers.

Where are you?

There is a shop near me that does that kind of stuff - stupidly cheap, anything you want/need.

When I rebuilt the MGF, had to replace all the bolts/nuts - per pack of TWO at main shops was around 3 quid - got a half full tesco sized bag for about 10 quid from this shop.;

Thanks for that. I'd never heard of them but with a site at Bickenhill/Elmdon, they aren't too far away. Better still if they could arrange for items to be collected from their Gloucester site.

I'll certainly keep them in mind.

Again. Thanks.

Just about any good fastener specialist should be able to sort you out easily...

We have a good one, virtually next door to screwfix, more expensive, but worth every penny extra- find a local one, more helpful for the slightly more obscure things.

Replied with info, just as I checked back and saw Hitch had suggested a fastner specialist, which is what the place I was going to suggest.

Let us know how you get on!

Cheers,

If you cant find somewhere locally, try giving these guys a ring-

Very knowledgeable staff, good selection on engineering type fasteners too. Theyve recently started an online store, so a phone call may just sort you out even if they arn't listed.

Cheers Hitch.

I'll keep them in mind.

Another that I've found is,
http://www.directconsumables.co.uk/cate ... egory=Find

They don't accept telephone orders and, from the phone number, probably operate from some 'scabby' unit in north Birmingham. Great Barr area. Not that I find a problem with that. If that's how they keep their prices low, all the better. I can even pay by PayPal and they offer a 'price matching' option on the site.

5/32 x 1 5/8 works out at a little over 3p each (for 200). As opposed to other sites where a single unit price was in the region of 12p+. And they also do 5/32 x 2 1/4, which is another size that I can use in quantity.

For a sub £20 order, I'd be willing to give them a try.

Update.

I said I'd be back :-)

Regarding the Nottingham firm suggested by BillyGoat. Gave them a ring. Not very professional and didn't seem geared up for mail order requests. The conversation went along the lines of, "I think we have some like that. About 200 or so (as though looking in a box)". And the price they quoted, after hearing a few heavy fingered thumps on a calculator, was about twice what I eventually paid. A company worth keeping in mind, but perhaps more for 'passing trade'.

Hayley Group. Impressive website but difficult to easily identify where to contact. Not helped by broken-links in their site. In the end, gave up.

Hitch's suggestion. My apologies. I didn't follow that one up.

Directconsumables. They are at Halesowen, not Great Barr. I must be getting rusty with my knowledge of West Midlands dialling codes. I ordered two packs of 200 of two different lengths. 400 in total.

Web ordering was easy. A downside being that unless one has already established a Trade Account, then it could only be done through PayPal. Not a problem. Ordered early PM Day 1. Order wasn't despatched until late PM Day 3, but did arrive the following morning, AND, I would say, extremely well packaged. Good email communication regarding status of order. It is just that it was a little s l o w in delivery.

In conclusion, I'd use them again, but, I'd also be open to using other suppliers.
