My Daughters Playhouse
Hi i would like to show you all my playhouse i am building for my daughter for christmas, please bear in mind i work in an office and this is my first attempt at anything like this so be gentle. I decided to build one as we could have it to our specifications, to save some money and to learn carpentry skills. The playhouse is 1.8m x 1.8m square with the ridge about 2.3m tall. It has a floor inside and 3 fixed windows that will be 2mm Perspex. It has a stable door with a fixed window again 3mm Perspex. I still have a lot of work to carryout.

Re: My Daughters Playhouse
i'll be 100% honest here, you couldn't buy one as good as that off the shelf. your thought and design have gone into it because you care about the ones it's for, that is priceless but if you had to value it to buy it wouldn't be made of decent materials like you have used but i would hazard a guess that it would be well in excess of £1500.
it looks superb they will be extremely happy this xmas
don't forget though, there are plenty of experienced tradesmen on here that can give you pointers you might not be thinking of so don't be afraid to ask if you need it.

Re: My Daughters Playhouse
fantastic job well done i bet your please
on a technical note you may need planning permission as it has a raised platform above 300mm
but if no one complains you'll be fine

Planning Permission
Putting up decking, or other raised platforms, in your garden is permitted development, not needing an application for planning permission, providing:
The decking is no more than 30cm above the ground
together with other extensions, outbuildings etc, the decking or platforms cover no more than 50 per cent of the garden area.

Re: My Daughters Playhouse
I never relised that, as it's a temporary structure i thought it was exempt from planning laws.big-all wrote:fantastic job well done i bet your please

Re: My Daughters Playhouse
i wouldnt worry in the least i doubt anyone will even know about the regs
the 300mm is to stop overlooking other properties
in your instance it would have to be someone interpreting the regs badly as your platform does'nt allow anyone to see over the fence as the window top governs your vision
its more to let the poor people that build nice treehouses as a platform would need planning

Re: My Daughters Playhouse
Just echoing the other comments Riche...Brilliant mate
Your daughter, no doubt, will be over the moon!!
Loving the stable doors n union jack mat You're making me want to build one myself..Probably best waiting till I have kids though as it would only get filled with tools

Re: My Daughters Playhouse
Excellent job. The roof configuration adds character.
For phase 2 you might consider some guttering directed into a water butt......I'm sure your daughter will get a right buzz out of seeing it fill and it'll add a touch of 'green' to the project - just a thought.
One other thing to consider. Select a suitable location inside the house and mark her height on the wall with a felt tip pen. Add the date and do this at regular intervals. It'll personalise her space and she'll have something to look back on when she's older.
