Anoying phrases

Post by Someone-Else »

Whilst looking for something on the internet I came across a classified section of ads the seller had put "The first to see will buy"
I find that so annoying, because its a presumption that they are correct. What if its a piece of junk they are selling? would you buy it? It reminded me of the other one. "looking to buy" I don't know why, I just hate that one.

So my question is, what common sayings do you really not like, and why? (Does not have to be related to selling)
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

 If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

there is actually some truth in this one
you need warm moisture laiden air to meet cold air to cool the the warm air to force it to drop the moisture that will then be frozen and turned to snow
if its to cold the air will hold little moisture so difficult to get any snow

"Coming up": usually used by TV presenters, which is fair enough I suppose some of the time, but it's even crept into the news programmes now. Just tell me the freaking news one item at a time, I don't need a preview. :angryfire:

The myth

Sometimes, during cold weather, it snows – but other times, it’s just so cold that it’s too cold even for snow.

The “truth”

Anyone who’s lived in a country where it snows in winter will recognise the feeling behind this popular piece of folk meteorology: there are days when the cold is so intense, you have the sense that even the snow is too frozen to fall. “It’s been trying to snow all day,” people will say, “but it’s just too cold.” Professional meteorologists, however, say that nowhere on Earth can ever be literally too cold for snow; it can and does snow at extremely low temperatures. But it is true that snow is less common and less plentiful once ground level air temperatures get much below zero (the figure given varies), mainly because of a lack of water vapour in the cold air. Even then, signifi cant snowfall can occur under certain circumstances, such as up a mountain, or over a source of heat or body of water. Snow is certainly not unknown, for instance, at the frozen Poles. Only at absolute zero (–459oF or –273oC), say the experts, would snow become impossible. Along with everything else.

'Does my bum look big in this'!! It's the biggest leading question ever! If you say 'no' they just think you're lying, if you say 'yes' you're sleeping on the couch!!!!!

Please, somebody give me an antidote to this question

After years and years of being a sarcastic bugger I can now get away with "Yes, huge." How she takes it is up to her. :thumbleft:
