Block plane £30-£40.
Can anyone please suggest a good block plane, I have a cheap one that I've used for a few years & it's OK, but I'd like to get a better one. One thing I do use it for quite a lot is plastic panels, be it bath panels or a bit of UPVC below a shower tray.
Thanks guys.

you will be better off with a lowangle plane whatever you decide to get, maybe look at second hand pre war planes that were built to last…...

I've got one of these _ http://www.record-planes.com/135/record ... ock-plane/ - actually I've got two of them - I needed a new iron for my Record 0110 and the shop wanted silly money for it - I went to Lymington market and bought the 0102 (from a pukka second hand stall, for less than the price of a new iron) and it is such a delight and joy to use that I bought another one from Ebay - they won't be everyone's cup of tea because of the adjustment method but that's second nature to me; at 5" long and under a pound in weight you can slip them in a pouch and forget them.
One day it will all be firewood.

You might well be better off with a surform Dickie. They work very well on plastic bath panels
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work

I can remember that with my smoothing plane and jack plane (both Stanleys) I had to file out the back of the throat.fin wrote:

Re: Block plane £30-£40.
My dad gave me plane years ago that had belonged to my grandad, not sure it was that great but it worked well enough. Then I dropped it on a concrete floor and it broke in two, I was devastated and afraid I'd killed a family heirloom. Told my dad and he got a box out with another half a dozen of the same planes in and said “take your pick”.speed wrote:maybe look at second hand pre war planes that were built to last…...
Still use it.
Sorry Dickie, not much help... not unless I inherit the box.
When I heard they'd discovered a cure for dyslexia it was like music to my arse!

Re: Block plane £30-£40.
I had my grandads saw horses, they were at least 30 years old when I got them. They lasted me a few years as well which was a result considering the amount of woodworm in them.
He told me off when I got a Yankee. Said they were too dangerous and were banned from site when he was working.
