At first I thought this was funny....Then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end! Some is US only, add or subtract where you think is appropriate.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It's time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax
Airline surcharge tax
Airline Fuel Tax
Airport Maintenance Tax
Alcohol Tax
Building Permit Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world... We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class,a huge manufacturing base, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the Hell happened? Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money?
Oh, and don't forget the relatively new bank charges....
And we all know what we think of Bankers.

Lets see 100 years ago:
Widespread Polio/Measles epidemics
Large levels of deaths in infancy
No career paths for women (even those whose husbands were drunkards/dead)
Kids regularly and often savagely abused physically, mentally and sexually
Widespread exploitation of workers by management (no change there then)
No unemployment benefits (or less than we have now, though heading back to those levels...cheers gideon)
Arbitary deductions from wages
Landlords who could and would kick you out on the streets with little or no provocation and NEVER did any maintenance
No healthcare / NHS
Little or no opportunities for advancement (Wait thats reappeared since....oh about 2001 and gotten worse since, die rich in UK, you gotta be born rich)
No contraception
No inside plumbing (fancy sitting outside answering natures call in minus 10C?)
Outside toilet shared with 3 to 10 other families
Widespread Asbestos exposure, along with other toxic chemicals
No PPE
No TV
No Net
Tin tub or a kitchen sink to wash in once a week.
Frequent malnutrition

The "good ole days" weren't that great :P

:laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3: Nice rebuttal Scot and a few good points you make :thumbright:

A couple of things...NIC funds NHS, or supposed to anyway.

The irony that we wouldn't have had the things above without said taxes but a huge portion of the money going into the country today is to pay interest on loans..God help us in another 100 years then

What on earth is VAT used for? I'll have a good look tomorrow when I can see the screen :-)

I have a simple plan to get the country back on its feet....benevolent dictatorship.....I'll volunteer....
My first acts: Every MP to have a meeting with some piano wire and a lampost (Thanks K_E for the idea) IDS and Gideon to get a meeting with a pike on Tower bridge though....(easily saves £42 Million a year without even counting expenses, aides salaries, "special advisors" etc)
Westminister to be used as a tourist attraction / business hotel (so more money generated)
Buckingham palace as above (more money again)
Phil the Greek and the Mrs downsized to a 1 bed flat in tower hamlets (all in this together you see, sacrifices to be made, though would consider them staying in the servants quarters on condition of them and their brood acting as unpaid tour guides)
HS2 extended to Inverness via Glasgow(Anyone willing to provide labour on site offered work at £10 an hour (should get plenty of interest and money moving in the economy), NIMBYs ignored)
HS3 from Birmingham to Penzance (one of the few "sunny areas" in the UK)
HS4 Birmingham up the East Coast via Middlesborough, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Aberdeen
Look for niche industries and exploit them (bound to be something few others do that is in demand)
Companies to have to employ or train a Brit/EU member before bringing in someone from outwith the EU (negotiate 1 in, 1 out with Europe)
Anyone willing to emigrate offered £10K in relocation expenses (frees a job up and lowers the unemployment stats)
Cancel all the contracts with ATOS and spend the money on reasonable payments to the disabled and carers (£50 a week for over 35 hours work a week....isn't that indentured servitude??)
Actually provide some training to people looking for work, not "do an ECDL / Telemarketing "course" / Shelf stacking "apprenticeship"
JIB/SJIB disbanded due to serious conflict of interest
