Polishing Booth - Any Such Thing?

Hi all :)

I do a lot of polishing of Aluminium castings with a floor standing buffer. However the mess it makes is ridiculous! I wear a respirator & goggles to protect myself - but my workshop ends up covered in thick black fallout!

I had thought of attaching some king of dust extraction to the buffer shrouds - but I don't think this would catch the particles which are flung far & wide by the wheels.

So I wondered if anyone has ever constructed some kind of small booth / enclosure with dust extraction? It would need to be small as I am space restricted.

I have thought of all kinds - even a toilet type tent?!

Anyway - just wondered if anyone had a similar problem and what they have tried?

Thanks!

Used to do a lot of polishing in a previous job. Large pedestal polisher, that had a big extractor hood behind and part above the whole machine. Took a fair bit away, but still plenty of mess.

FIL has a polisher in his workshop for polishing brass. Same problem. For that, I put a sheet of plywood each side fixed to the wall. Perhaps this is something you could do, and maybe a curtain or door across?

Or how about a curtain track, a bit like around a hospital bed....

When i did all my bike bits i set up a 6ft x 6ft booth with old curtains i bought for a few quid from car boot sales.
what i did notice is you definitely need your PPE as it reduced the fall out dramatically but your in there with it all

Only wondering. What about adapting a "henry" so that his hose sits just above the buffing wheel. Anything flying can go up the hose, and if its really bad, you could switch henry on.

My thinking (May be wrong) is that if the area is big you will need something like a tornado to collect everything, but if you start at source (Just above the wheel) you can have something smaller. i.e henry

Mask googles and disposable overalls were usually the order of the day.

Had one guy there that used to do 90% of it...luckily
