I just built a basic bird box and enjoyed making it so I would like to have a go at building a fancy one.

Does anyone know of any links where I might be able to get some ideas, templates from?

Thanks in advance

No  , i found them somewhere and kept them for a round tuit. I think they are very unusual and would probably sell well. :thumbright:

I can''t fancy making one for the garden

I can't imagine they are that difficult to make once a template has been created. Using a band or scroll saw would make it quite quick to knock up the intricate pieces and a band saw could be used if you have the time

What wood would you use

Usually i would just use pallet's or plywood for things like this. But at the moment i've got a large pile of spruce (over 500) 8'x3''x1/2'' to use up. :thumbright:

Woody they are really good and put my attempts to shame. Although having said that all the ones I have made are occupied but maybe our Suffolk feathered friends are not terribly bright!!

Just remember it's 1.1/4" hole for blue tit's, any bigger and other bird's get in and break the eggs or throw the chick's out to take over the nest box.

My current hole is 25mm, which would hopefully attract a tit or two, I am looking at making a bigger hole for the great tit when I knock another one up!

Should rephrase that really but I think you get my drift! :-)
