Do I need to use a special waterproof or water resistant adhesive and grout for tiling a shower cubile? The wall is a stud wall and plastered? Do I need to prep the area in any special way? PVA?
thanks

I take it this is the same bathroom you have humidity problems in??
What is the set up.......no window, window?
What about extraction, where is it placed and what type is it?

It's the same room I'm talking about over in painting and decorating. No real humidity issues, just wasn't sure whixh paint to use in a bathroom.
The room is approx 8x4 ft, there is a window and also an extractor fan in the centre of the ceiling. Turns on with the light and is vented outside via a duct in the attic.
Also not sure who h adhesive to use? Cement based? Flexi?
Thanks for help

Cement based for sure and use flexi due to the stud wall.
Don't use PVA but you will need to use a primer. Buy the primer at the same time as the adhesive and grout. The shop will sell one suitable to the adhesive.
Depending on what your work is like, type of shower and how the enclusure is done, it may be best to tank first.

I will be a 10kw electric shower. My tiling experience is minimal, but I'm very patient and have an eye for detail. Not sure how to describe how the enclosure will be fitted, but I am using the existing tray that is fixed in place and siliconed all round. As is the gap between the tray and wall and also bonded to the wall.
What tanking kit would you recommend and it is worth it?

I use Impey tanking system but mainly for showers of high output, multiple jets, wet rooms.
If you are a stickler then you are half way there, it means you don't mind taking your time.
Keep the bottom row 2mm off the shower tray, 2mm gap for internal corner and 2mm gap between top tile and ceiling.
Silicone tray where the shower enclosure wall profiles are going and fit profiles.
Fit enclosure.
Silicone between profiles and wall (as per sinstructions, as enclosures will vary!!!)
Silicone internal corner/s
Silicone around tray and bottom of enclosure
Silicone around ceiling.
Use Dow Corning 785 silicone unless a specific colour other than white is being used.
Don't use kerrap adhesives or grouts......use BAL, Nicobond, Ardex, Marpei. Topps tiles own make isn't bad either.
If you feel confident than don't tank if you have any nervousness about it then tank.

When I laid the tiles in the hall and downstairs loo I used marpi and it seemed good gear. Will use it again. Thanks for the advice. I'll take a few pics along the way and show you what I'm at. Everyone loves a bit of DIY porn.

Put it in the showcase gallery as an ongoing job.
