As you know we are moving house we booked a removal firm and accepted a quote of £350
Since the booking we have had a plan to change a lot of furniture so we have sold two sofas
Two single beds
Two sideboards
All the garden furniture
Dining table and six chairs
We rang the removal firm and asked for a new quote explained our situation in great detail but they refused to change the price
I have just rang another firm and they have quoted £140
Rang first company they said they would knock £30 off

Perhaps they arn't changing the costs because of the distance, rather than the quantity of stuff. A galaxy far far away is obviously going to cost a fair amount, unless they are using warp drives or black matter engines.

In that case it may be that their unwillingness to drop the price is a financial issue. If you have signed a contract for them to do a certain amount of work, as a company they may not be able to fill the rest of that day and with wages still to pay, they could be out of pocket.
You could check there cancellations/adjustments policy. If you've not signed a contract then perhaps get someone else to do the job. Although, the removals company may still pursue there costs, as you seem to have a verbal agreement in place.
It's the same if a customer books a tradesmen to do a job and cancels/adjusts a week prior, that tradesmen may have employees to pay and not be able to fill the space and be out of pocket as he still needs to pay his staff.
There's just been a thread discussing this and the impact of late cancellations is there
people-really-can-pee-me-off-sometimes-t64055.html The context is slightly different (that client dropped Steve in it closer the start date)..But gives an idea of the impact.
