Less then double the price then in the USA, so that is better then expected!!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

FWIW, Maplins are doing a 300VA Step-down transformer for £15 at the moment, which is pretty good value - so if you end up with any US spec kit, it will let you charge up the batteries using the US chargers :thumbright:

The new charger is a dual-technology one, so would charge Li-On and Ni-Cad :thumbright: Prob won't be long for a 2 Batt+ charger for under £100 as you say

On the downside, if you went for a cheaper US charger, need the stepdown trans as well

Well,

I am really looking forward to reading a report from someone who is using these new batteries in their existing Ryobi one plus kit.

I use my one plus kit day in and day out, often on heavy duty applications, At one point I was running 8 batteries and 6 chargers grinding, drilling, tapping 8 X 1.25 threads 25mm deep, and then installing 8mm bolts on a large stainless steel fabrication and assembly job on a boat afloat on the Broads. This was moored about 400 metres from the narest single phase supply, and I was running the one plus chargers from the boat's own inverter supply.

I was running two 1/2 inch pistol drills for the pilot and tapping drills, then used them for 2nd and and plug tapping. The impact driver was used for running up the bolts, and the grinder with a 60 grit flap wheel for weld cleaning duties, and a slotted diamond disc for cutting fibreglass. In all there was in excess of 350 holes to drill and tap, and over 30 metres of fibre glass to cut and trim. All this I managed to complete in only two days, although the batteries and chargers did struggle to keep up with me.

If the new Lithium Ion batteries live up to their promised potential, they will make my life just a little easier. I'll be able to run three batteries to two chargers instead of two batteries to one charger.

blimey 3 batterys 2 chargers

you are relying on the batteries lasting exactly 30 mins then charge 1hr

slight flaw here !!!
hard worked batterys should be "rested " for around 20 mins to cool down before charging the chargers should be allowed to cool down between batteries and the batteries them selves need to cool a bit before use

having said all that the new batteries are 41% more capacity so will probably run for nearer 50% more time

perhaps a fourth battery would be prudent then one charger could keep up assuming a battery averages at least 40 mins !!!

blimy just worked it out with 4 batteries you would still need 2 chargers  if you average 40 mins and your charging takes 1hr plus 10 mins cool down

I have actually got 5 mains chargers and 8 batteries. The first 10 piece tool kit that purchsed from machinemart included a charger and two batteries, and I manged to pick up 3 individual tool deals that included 2 batteries and the charger, for about £5 more than the cost of the naked tool, being sold by most retailers. So that was a real a no brainer descion.

One charger I manged to pick up from my local freecycle group, hence the odd number.

With the pistol drills, impact driver, angle grinder and jigsaw, I can manage about 30 minutes of continueous use until performance drops off, and about 35 minutes to completly flat. In the early days of using this kit, I fell foul of not resting the battery before charging, so now I step my usage to include the battery standing to cool for the complete charging cycle of the previously exhausted battery. That is why all of my batteries and chargers are now numbered.

If these new Li-ion batteries deliver, then I will purchase six batteries and two, possibly three chargers over a 3 month period, retaining two of my original batteries, along with one charger and the in car charger, until that becomes available for the Li-ions.

Yes, an expensive initial investment, but I make my living with this kit, and that sometimes requires fixed price or on-site piece-work.
