Iphone or EE problem

I'm getting rather sick of this Iphone, or perhaps it is the network?
It's switched on all of the time, it shows that there is network coverage as there are 2-3 bars showing.
Two of my mates just tried to call me and immediately it went through to answerphone, one tried to call twice the other tried three times. One of my mates called the girlfriends phone, so she then checked my phone to see if it was on silent- it wasn't and the phone was showing 2 bars signal strength.
I switched the phone off and back on and immediately I received two text messages saying I had missed two calls from mate 1 and three calls from mate 2
This is not the first time this has happened, it has happened several times. Also if I try watching a video I often get the swirling circle, despite having reception on the phone.
I don't remember having any such problems on my old Nokia, so it's either the Iphone or the network since it changed from T Mobile to EE
Has anyone had similar problems?

It's Chez's - he said so......
This happens to me a lot - we're in an area where the signal can drop oout without me noticing. Even though it comes back to strength the system appears to lose my contact details (it's like a 'log on' process when you switch the phone on) so the phone can lie there for days not getting any calls or messages. When I eventually go to town the better coverage results in me getting dozens of texts!

My other half has an iPhone (hateful thing imho) and it often goes to answerphone when I call her.
We're on Orange/EE too so that could be the problem...or she's just ignoring me

I'm on Orange/EE
I find that calls go direct to answer phone when I sitting there with signal good.
I put it down to network congestion in the local cell that I'm connected to.
Just because you have good signal strength doesn't mean there is a 'line' available for your phone to use.
TMobile and Orange have been carrying out 'optimisation' of the networks recently, i.e. turning off masts where they have both an Orange and TMobile covering the same area, so this, IMO, must result in less network capacity.
The same will happen when Vodafone and O2 combine their network of masts.

I had another problem the other day when I was in a meeting and wanted to scan a QR code on a brochure to visit a website.
I scanned the QR code no problem, but could not get on the internet despite having 5 bars
Later that day when I had time I had to re-boot the phone to be able to get on the internet
Most annoying

Yes and the cheeky b*stards even have to cheek to increase the price of the contract that you are in
When this contract is over I am seriously considering PAYG

For poor internet connection issues it could be congested cell as mentioned, but also perhaps try turning LTE off:

If all else fails, a full factory reset might sort it out. Or you could take it down the apple shop... they can be helpful if you can get past being patronised by some 18 year old "Genius"...!

Yeah I had the same issue with a 4S on vodafone.
Got a "dumb phone" again and it was probably one of the best moves I've made, no constant urge to google things, check my email or look at bookface updates, and I've always got signal, lovely.

For all the marketing crap we get filled with, I personally don't think any make of phone, or any network will be different.
It's all down to the bloody software running them all. The more things the software is supposed to do, the more the software writers don't find/know the possible bugs.
FFS, I've yet to have a sky box that doesn't need re-booting once a week either.
I'm now about to get a Samsung Galaxy S4 on EE. Why stick with EE? Simples, my boy works for them so I get 40% off the line rental
Makes the faults seem just that little bit more bearable. Only a little mind
