First job this morning was at a well known chain of American style bars at Manchester airport
I had to get up on the roof to fix the cooling fan so checked in with the duty manager for the keys
Usual H&S told her if I am not down in 15 minutes to check I'm ok
Coming down the ladder I'm approached by a well dressed women shouting what are you doing cant you hear the fire alarm, the building has been evacuated
Well no actually the constant steam of aircraft drowns any internal noise out
Anyway false alarm and I approach the manager who signed me in to question there procedures as had this been for real who knows what could have happened
Her reply was well I was busy and forgot about you

They forgot he was there so, presumably, would have forgotten to radio him.
What they need is a proper 'control of work system' - I'd be amazed if a place of that size didn't have one.

Re: Fire Fire Fire !!!!!!!
At work, I have to test the fire alarm every Friday morning at 11.00am prompt. I've been doing this now for just about 2 yrs. Never ceases to amaze me how many staff gather at the assembly point, by the time I've walked through the building from whichever fire point I've activated. (usually closely followed by the cook, as the fire alarm cuts the gas off to the range cooker automatically)
