Tradepoint!!

Post by scot-canuck »

What is the flipping point?
So many products are the same price as whats on the shelf at BnPoo or that drivel otherwise known as "you pick"
Also used to get 10 or 15% off a range of stuff, last few times.....nada....at times even the staff have been surprised that nothing has been taken off...utter waste of time....

I was always under the impression (may be wrong) that screwfix is always cheaper

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I usually use screwfix, but BnPoo can be handy for some stuff (light fittings etc), you think being an electrician I would get discount on light fittings....nope....
xmas decorations at one point but not on light fittings...the mind boggles...

Actually, I find I have to not agree with you on this one.

B & Q is known for being a diy store / place for joe public, not a "wholesaler"
Yes I know it has trade point / trade only, but that's a load of .......

But screwfix on the other hand.........

I have a tradepoint card and have to agree, the discounts now seem to be zero. Last time I used it, I got nothing off the items I bought. When I queried it, I was told that only certain items had discounts (even though some of the things I bought, got a discount a few months back)

the electrical range at trade point is rubbish, screwfix have a better range, more of a clue (usually) and now an electricfix/plumbfix only counter (handy, just wish electricfix got discount on plumbing stuff also...)

Only thing BnPoo are good for are oddities, stuff no one else holds in stock especially speedfit plumbing bits

Tradepoint card number 3 since september turned up today.... :?
I think there is the reason for the price increases...constant card replacements....

I spent about 500 quid on one a while back.

Brought plasterboard and timber - both pretty trade like
Purchased backboxes for sockets, ceiling roses, T&E - all pretty trade like
Got some fixings, screws and other 'bare metal building' kinda stuff
Picked up a pair of work gloves on the way out tradepoint

The ONLY thing I saved about 98p on was the gloves. Nothing else - not a penny. I said to the bloke, what's the fecking point - he said don't start, he gets it EVERYDAY.

His outlook......at least I get to use the faster exit and big slidey door. That's it.....a big door.

I also got shouted at once by a bloke who was queuing at the trade counter. I went to walk out the exit and he souted - OI, TRADE ONLY!!!! Didn't work there, just some scruffy bloke buying something - held my card up and told the scruffy c**t the shut the f*** up. He went quiet as the counter staff were laughing at him!

Dire.

Agree with all the above - also had a bit of a barney with the shop manager when I tried to return a hedge trimmer the other day, apparently any products sold with a tradepoint card only have a 45 days return policy. This led to a heated debate over how they could change consumer rights by displaying a poster.

The ONLY reason I used tradepoint was not for the discount but because it is the ONLY way you can actually get served in there without using those god forsaken self service tills (If I wanted to work at B&Q I would!)

Anyway , hedge trimmer returned and you will likely find me at Travis Perkins in future.

I'm surprised by that.............I never got a discount on the gloves

Though I did on the screws/plasterboard/timber/plyboard.... :dunno:

I should check my card....perhaps it was a Costa Coffee card......or maybe PointTrade??

Could explain a lot.

BG (who really threw his card away as it was shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite)

edit: tell a lie.....I DID get a really good price on the B-PEX pipe used for the heating in the bungalowwwwwww. That's about it.

I use TP because it's usually on my way, whereas SF is a bit out of my way, but I agree, I've recently noticed that I rarely get a discount on anything. I used to get 15% off paint, but that's long gone.

I think I'll be going out of my way a lot more.

There is a very important word in your sentence 'Consumer', you are not a consumer, you are a business. So they haven't changed your rights by just putting up a poster, they are advising you consumer rights do not apply in the same way. In fact 45 days is very generous as they don't even have to do that.

If you are buying goods in the course of your business then normal consumer rights don't apply. The same with websites where you normally get a 7 day cooling period due to distance selling rules, again this does not apply to business to business sales (although many web retailers still honor it).
