removing newly fitted faulty tile

Post by jacko5 »

Just realised that for some daft reason I have cut and fitted a tile with the cut side to the grout line side instead of to the wall side.

1. will it notice when grouted ?

2. Should I try and remove it and replace?

The tile is just an L section of a 30cm x 20cm tile onto backing board. The cut is quite straight but of course does not round on edge like an uncut tile.
It has been fitted only for a day.

Did you use readymix adhesive? If so, it sets slower than powder and water adhesive. so remove it without delay.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

No used flexible fast set but only buttered it, and realised the Marmox board water proof joint tape does not grip that well unless adhesive is applied first. So learned something useful too. It was not that easy to get off but as it was only a small piece it came off in 2 pieces without damage to the board, fortunately. I think it takes a few days to fully go off.
The job involves a niche in the tiles too, so as this uses a lot of tape, I have coated it in thin set before tiling.
