Frontals

Post by powellct »

Evening gents,

I have a job coming up where I (think) I need to get custom frontals - I tend to fit Howdens units, but the customer is adamant he doesn't want carcasses. I say I think, as I only managed to get a quick measure while onsite for another job, and certainly the existing cabs look to be 715.
If it does come to custom doors, any suggestions for a reliable company - I'm always wary of the Sunday supplement ads.
Thanks in advance
Col.

PS - the search facility for "frontals" comes up with lobotomies.....

You can get 715 door off the shelf,

Hill panel products do doors in all sizes and custom. You need to open an account tho, they have a non trade website doorsandfittings . Co. uk

Thanks Chop.

I can find plenty of companies that do them, but none I've ever used or heard of, hence the ask for recommendations. You know how it is, takes years to build a reputation and only one crap job to tarnish it....

What are you doing fitting Howdens then    Sorry couldn't resist

For custom made doors pick up a trade journal such as KBBreview or Kitchen & Bathroom update... you'll find plenty of well established firms in the back pages.

Customers love the big shiny brochure..... And the fact that Magnet come up with "we'll beat any price" tells me they aren't giving me the best price in the first place...

Neither are Howdens as they will ring you at the end of the month offering to take another few quid off if you take it that week.

Plenty of builders fit Howdens kitchens but they really are a rubbish kitchen for the money. Same goes for magnet IMO.

Anyway not knocking you but there really are far superior kitchens out there in the same price bracket as Howdens if you just take a look around.

You like Benchmarx though and I had the misfortune to fit one of those last year. Couldn't hold a light to Howdens in my opinion. Even the cheap appliances they do are even worse than Lamona.

Wren kitchens were rubbish too.

Yeah I think Benchmarx are the best out of the DIY shed kitchens if that is what someone is looking for and wants it next day. They might be cam and doweled where as Howdens are glued but if units are glued out of square like the many I've had from howdens then it's no use to anyone. It really is poor of howdens to not even have clip-on hinges let alone soft-close as standard. we are talking penny pinching there! Benchmarx kitchens exceed Howdens on every aspect IMO.

Appliance wise I wouldn't buy a white label own branded anyway, howdens seem to change the name every few years as it is. Not sure which cheap appliances you're talking about with Benchmarx? They are all branded as far as i'm aware. Besides unless you are getting bargin basement 3 in 1 deals from the likes of howdens/magnet/benchmarx then none of them are competitive on appliances anyway.

Too right about them not being competitive on appliances.....apart from when we get charged 99p for them lol.

Benchmarx do Zanussi appliances. Branded but must be cheap contract range cos they were rubbish.

I have had cam and dowel units out of square and they are a kin pain to get back into square. The Howdens ones are easy to square back up.

benchmarx were better than Ikea though, although not hard to acheive that accolade!

i recently fitted a howdens kitchen and loads of the units were out of square. a reet annoyance. i also had a minor fall out with the tit that designed the kitchen over his not wanting to use decor ends on the base units even though the wall units had them on. he wouldnt have it that it knocked the line of the units out.

Howdens only can only charge you 99p for appliances because they pulled your pants down on units!!!
