Internet explorer full of problems

I have been using Internet explorer since I first bought a PC in 1999, but just recently it is starting to irritate me so much that I am considering switching to Chrome permanently.

Recently I had problems printing out paypal transactions using IE- ie-10-paypal-printing-small-t65119.html

Then I had the blue underlined text links- blue-underlined-text-links-internet-exp ... 66789.html

Now I have more problems

Firstly each time I try and download any file from the internet, be it a PDF or a database backup I get a message saying the file contains a virus and has been deleted ::b

Secondly some pages do not render correctly, although they appear fine in firefox and Chrome. I know I can click on the compatibility view button, but I should not have to

Ditched IE years ago and switched to Firefox, never regretted it.

More recently, ditched Windows altogether and switched to Ubuntu (still using Firefox but there are loads of browsers to choose from). Took a couple of days to get used to it, but have never looked back. Now I dont have to bother with upgrade and update costs, Ubuntu is always upgraded for free (automatically if I want). No viruses, and less security risk for things like online banking.

I too use Ubuntu (12.04.2) , but prefer Chrome as my default browser. Went to my daughters yesterday to have a look at her computer. Running Win Vista, but hadn't been updated since March 2011. Win Update wouldn't run, but found a solution on the internet. When I got the update working, it found 114 updates + 1 suggested update. Took almost 4 hrs till they were downloaded and installed. Sound wasn't working at all, but found that the default sound output had been set to HDMI (she originally had an HDMI monitor, but stopped using it)
Still don't like Windoze though (although I actually loved WinXP, probably the best offering from Bill Gates crew)
