Dodgy keyboard key (just the one!)

Post by kellys_eye »

Acer Aspire 5735Z.

Right cursor key has stopped working. It did this a while ago and then, for some inexplicable reason, it started working again. It's now stopped - AGAIN ::b

It's not a hardware fault and this has been reported across the interweb as a common problem but there seems to be no specific solution for my model (all the answers give you help to get around the issue but I want the actual key to work).

Running Windows 7

Any idea? :dunno:

Not hardware? Sure about that?

Turn PC on and enter BIOS as soon as it comes on (F2, Delete, whatever it tells you). If it's NOT software, you can use arrow key to navigate.

If it works, it's OS related. If it don't, it's hardware - simple.

Try take KB off by disconnecting ribbon, attach. That's about your lot. Wouldn't be the first hardware fault to be common across a range.

Built to a budget WO.....not typically a high end machine.

Also, if you think it's typically Sainsburys/supermarket quantity of sales (where did you get it? They 'fell out' with a certain retailer a while ago), then you'll hear more faults as there are TONS of them out there.

Well it would appear that it's a hardware fault as the cursor key doesn't work under the BIOS screen  - thanks for the tip BG - but funny it should suddenly work (for abot 3 months) before stopping again

It's not worth the effort of taking the keyboard apart (if it's a broken track - probably a pth breakdown - I could fix it easily) but other than this issue the lappy has worked flawlessly. It's actually quite speedy! Ah well, if I get bored over winter I might have a closer look at it.

Cheers :thumbright:
