Welded mesh - good for protecting my windows?

Post by TSummerlin »

i'm at the early stages of my thought process at the moment but just wanted to get people's views before I get too far down the line.

I own a small corner shop and, while it's not in a particularly rough area, the windows are increasingly becoming cracked and broken. So, I need to protect them and shutters seem a bit expensive. So my thoughts turned to mesh of some sort and I've found it within my budget here:

But what I want to know is, is it suitable and will it do the job? Any help would be great.

If/when your windows get broken (or they need replacing now) then replacing the glass with something more substantial (unbreakable?) may be cheaper and a LOT better looking than steel mesh.
Don't take it personally......

That stuff looks too thin / flexible.

Bloke I used to work for made "security grilles" it was similar to that stuff only thicker, he welded it into a steel frame then painted it with "galvanising paint"
The idea was the frames gave it support, too big and it can flex too much, giving no protection, also the shop owner could remove it during trading hours. He made quite a bit doing that.

The downside was they were heavy and needed storage space and had to be put out / taken in every day. A roller shutter may seem expensive, but its is the best way to go.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

OK guys, thanks for the advice. I had a look at that mesh and it seemed OK so might give it a go to begin with.

It needs to be a deterrent more than anything I think so that first and then, if it fails, it's time for some shutters.

Have to say I don't know the answer to your question but I've used the company you posted before and they were good value for money.
