Boxing not so clever!

I have been refurbishing a chest of drawers for the last few days and had some time on my hands while the veneer was in glue up.
A friend had asked me for a small box to house his gun in. I had a few offcuts of oak and half a sheet of felt so bit by bit I made this for him.

Luckily it is a friend as I made a major boo boo on it! ......Did you notice the name on the top?

No problem Big al, it is just an airsoft pistol he uses it to keep his hand in as he uses a real Glock in his job. that one is safely locked away unless he is on duty. As he always sates it's not the weapon its the guy behind it that is the danger.

its the american culture of buying kids there own pretty pink gun at 6 years old and getting high on the noise and power that is the mentality off someone not fit to have a gun

Well yes I do agree with you there Big al. My friend is a Close protection op as his job and has never had to use his in anger yet. His philosophy is, if you have to fire your gun you have failed in your duty and it is a last resort. I have nothing against guns as long as they are handled by sensible people. As you have shown this is not always the case sadly.
Not sure about the 'notorious' thing Wes but making a lot of money sounds good to me.

You haven't failed in your duty if you have to fire your weapon. I had to use mine on numerous occasions and my vehicle. If you lose or have an injured client, then you have failed.

Nice philosophy, but if it were correct then he wouldn't have to practice with an air soft weapon that is completely different to his issue weapon. The weapons drills are completely different for both, lol.

He should have plenty of time for dry drills whilst at work and also live firing. We used to be armed 24hrs a day and have range days to pass.

He surely can't be abroad with a terrorist threat against his clients.

In England with the resources the authorities have for counter surveillance measures it may make a bit of sense. Also a nice safe area of operation to do rehearsal runs etc etc.

He is home at the moment in training but he is not based in the UK, more than that I can't say as they play there cards close to their chest so to speak. He does get plenty of range time but likes to keep his hand in with the air pistols. (Similar weight, stance, etc)

Hi.

Is the veneer reinforced mitre joint pretty solid, compared to a dovetail? Is it just an aesthetic reason to pick between the two for small boxes such as this?

Lovely box my the way (as the headmaster said to the secretary or something along those lines).

The veneered mitre joint does make it sturdier but not as sturdy as a dovetail or a box joint. I used this method as it is quicker and has a pleasing look to it. HTH.
