Some pictures which aren't the best from a 1st fix I did this week, chipboard over osb, studding, casings, window boards, airing cupboard chipboard, pipe boxings. Started Monday, finished Thursday. I don't have a circular saw so everything was done by hand and I thought my right arm was gonna fall off yesterday  bellway homes btw

Looks good mate. We get pre made panels which saves a load of time. You have to make your own studs on the traditionals which is quite naff.

Cheers. Do you guys in Scotland put your window boards in 2nd fix? lol. They go in here 1st fix regardless of traditional or timber frame but I've seen them fixed in two different ways, two plates screwed in either side and one or two (if it's a big one) below into the studwork. Then today I saw some three blocks 2x2 screwed down and the board fixed by pinning it to these blocks. I hung my first door today without anyone there to give me a hand :-) (note these pictures are for assessment evidence, not just photos I've taken to show here but I might aswell lol)

Nice looking door msx,a couple of minor points tho. I can see the screw on the door frame is showing a little,I try and keep them behind the door stops. The spindles at the the top of the stairs aren't spaced correctly either, the spacings should be the same right through. You look like you are getting a bit of variety where you are working which is good.

Thanks once again but the spindles come as a complete kit already done lol all we do is fix them into place. The screw itself isn't sticking out, the stop bead/2'1 plant-on is just smack bang in the middle of one the casings fixing points. The site agent told us to fix the plant-ons before the painter came in start filling/sanding etc. Have you ever worked on a bellway site?

Never done a bellway house,is it door sets you are installing with pre hung doors? I've seen those ballistrade kits before tho, saves a lot of time but the spacings are all to pot!!

Nope, luckily for me (well as an apprentice) this is the only new build site I've been on where the doors aren't pre-hung. from what I know redrow, bellway (sites elsewhere), barratt, persimmon, wimpey etc use pre-hung door kits. Fit the casing 1st fix, swing it and chop the latches, receiver plates, locks etc in 2nd fix then remove/protect the door, then final fix screw everything back on. Well better than pre-hung doors :-P

Barratt had an equally as p*ss poor system hinging the doors with those naff chrome hinges. Why an earth would you want the standards in before you sheet! Madness

Hate studding at 600mm centres. We do everything at 400mm. Not blaming you though mate been on bellway, strata, barratts site they all spec 600mm centres shocking.

Why would you frame internal walls at 400 centres unless specifically asked to do so?? Waste of timber imo!
