leds are not always what they say

have a new plug in flow meter so checked the input off most off my led bulbs
the findings on some was quite surprising
now the ones with aluminium castings are fairly close to rated values although this could be pure coincidence
and when you have the same bulbs the higher input watts tends to mean higher output but not always
heres my findings not scientific but interesting

2x1.2rated2=1.7w
4x 2.5rated 1=2.9 2=2.1 and 1=1.6w
4x4w rated 1=2.3 and 3= 1.5w
4x4w rated 1=4.4 and 3= 4.2w[metal]
1x7w rated [toolstation]=6.8w[metal]
3x7w rated 1=6.1 and 2=6.3w[metal]
3x10w rated 1=8.1 1=8.3 1=8.8w[metal

now apart from the toolstation at 240v all the rest [metal] are 100-240v so seems you have compromises in efficiency to cover a large voltage range as the 4w at 1.5w are nearly if not as bright as the metal ones at 4+w

so from my list the 1.2and 2.5w bulbs [line one and two]are not as good as the 4w [line 3]running at 1.5w giving out around 50-80% more light per watt

Yes Ive had this problem too. Where the LED bulbs arent as bright as the incandescent bulbs. I use to use the energy saving bulbs but then there is a whole host of studies and reports that they may cause, and your cant dispose of it in your bin, as they contain murcury and if you accidently break it, the fumes that comes out are danagerous to health.

To be honest with so many health concerns, I got them out and went to my local shop to buy the old bulbs to replace them. The way I see it, if in doubt get it out. I dont want to be in hospital with my love one, thinking I should have listen to conspirarcy theories and not allowed the trend.

When LED came out I went to them but they were expensive and I noticed they didnt last long. I brought from screwfix/ BnQ / Stacks and none of them lasted for the 25years they said. They only last 1-2 and bit years. I guess in terms of money saved in energy bills its not worth complaining about. But I didnt think they were as bright as the old bulbs. But I still do like the fact they save me money on my bills. I have now got

How are you measuring this B-A? Usually the plug-in power meters are not all that accurate - even less so at minimum power input levels.

Your readings vary from the manufacturers claimed values by less than 10% in all cases and for MOST this is under 5%. I very much doubt your meter is accurate to better than 10% !!

should there not be some accuracy
if i am measuring the same group off bulbs in the same plug in holder day after day and getting the same reading will there be no useful comparason there then

I'd say Adrian UK has it about sussed.

10% variance on a 3W bulb is hardly here or there though.. the saving/cost of 0.3w above or below isn't worth playing with.

It would be the equivalent of arguing about a variance of 0.02 mm when making a pass of 0.2mm with your Ryobi planer...

all i really want to know is do the ones that read 2w and say 4w use less than the ones that say 4w and use 4 w ??
i dont actually care if one is using 6w and the other is using 4w i am more concerened in the efficiency

i do fully understand the basics off electrics but not the complexities like power factors etc
